Town Manager Statement Regarding Recent Drinking Water Testing
The Statement from the Town Manager Regarding Recent Drinking Water TestingĀ
The Town of Waterville Valley would like to recognize and commend our Water Department, Public Safety Department, and administrative staff for their prompt, professional, and decisive response following notification of E. coli in our drinking water system.
Upon receiving the notification, Town staff immediately implemented all required corrective actions and public notification procedures, including the issuance of a boil water notice, in strict accordance with federal and state regulations. Their response was swift, thorough, and fully compliant with the standards established by the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (NHDES) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Town routinely meets or exceeds all water quality testing and monitoring requirements established by NHDES and the EPA. Our drinking water system is continuously monitored for critical operational parameters, including chlorine residuals, pH levels, and temperature. Should any of these measurements fall outside established operating ranges, Water Department personnel take immediate corrective action to ensure the continued safety and reliability of our drinking water supply.
The Town is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the test result. While the source has not yet been determined, staff are conducting a thorough review of all sampling and handling procedures. This review includes evaluating chain-of-custody documentation, coordinating with the certified testing laboratory, and reviewing procedures with our third-party sample courier to ensure all protocols were properly followed throughout the collection and transport process.
The health and safety of our residents, businesses, employees, and visitors remain our highest priority. We appreciate the professionalism demonstrated by our Water Department, Public Safety Department, and administrative staff and thank the community for its patience and cooperation as we complete our investigation and continue to uphold the highest standards of water quality and public health protection.
Sincerely,
Ed Mullen
Town Manager
Town of Waterville Valley
